2020 RENEGADE RECYCLING VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

Thank you for wanting to Volunteer! You put the U in Comm-U-nity! Every time someone adds their talents and energy, it gets that much better! We are looking to build a Team of RETURN Volunteers that can come to multiple festivals over the entire season, maybe even ALL of them! This is not a Revolving Door Volunteer program to just work for a ticket to the show that weekend. At big shows, it's like RECYCLING BOOT CAMP! There is so much more to the festival than just the party, and someone has to help make sure to keep it clean! Come be part of the change that YOU wish to see in the world around you! Starting right here at our home. We want to make an impact on the minds and behaviors of people who come to this park and call it home! We want to teach people how to Recycle and be mindful of their trash habits, so hopefully they will take that back home and to the outside world where it's needed most! And the best way to teach people is through PLAY!! So remember to have a good time playing with campers and bring a positive attitude even when they don't!

The Recycling Program is Volunteer based and funded by the Aluminum Cans we collect. This happens because those of us who want to make sure we do our best to divert as much waste as possible from the landfills. Without people who care stepping up, LIKE YOU, none of this would be happening at all. So Thank You! All of the money from the cans goes right back into growing the program. It is used for things like buying bags that get passed out at shows, gloves, the Recycle barrels, truck maintenance, plastic dumpster service, equipment, etc. Please make sure you treat all of the equipment you use for the weekend as your own, because it is! And if it breaks, we have to use more money from cans to replace it.

VOLUNTEER HOURS

By volunteering, you are committing to a 15-25 hour work weekend, sometimes more or less. There is no specific number of hours required to be a volunteer, it varies from show to show and each one is different. The schedule you get is tentative, as things can change very quickly during shows, so be ready to handle what gets thrown at you if we have to switch it up! It all depends on how much work there is to do, and how quickly it gets knocked out. Everyone keeps on going until it's all done! The shifts include Passing out Recycle Bags on Main Road Thursday or Friday, hanging out at the music making sure no barrels overflow Friday or Saturday, and you'll either be in the TRUCK GROUP, WALKING GROUP, or the SORTING GROUP on Saturdays & Sundays.

Remember that you are Volunteering for a JOB, and this can be some pretty hard work, particularly Saturdays and Sundays! It is very important that you show up for ALL of your shifts ON TIME! So PLEASE make sure to know what/when/where your shifts for the weekend are, and if you have ANY questions, please ask someone! If you fail to show up or are late for your shifts, YOU WILL LOSE YOUR DEPOSIT AND BE ASKED TO LEAVE CAMP!!!

DON'T COME TO PARTY! Yes, it's a festival but you're volunteering to WORK! YOU are here to help create the experience others are having and teach them to be more mindful of their habits! Working at a festival can be very fun and you'll never see them the same way again! Get your work done and have fun while you're doing it, but GET THE WORK DONE FIRST!

DEPOSIT TICKET & CHECK IN PROCESS

You will be required to pay a deposit ticket for the festival when you arrive. DO NOT BUY A TICKET IN ADVANCE! You will get your deposit back at the end of the weekend as long as your shifts have been fulfilled and you were ON TIME for them.

1- Your name will be on the Recycling List when you come through the gate. You do NOT pay the deposit at the gate. Head towards the beach and park.

2- Check in with Sarah Mitchell at her booth, Nomadic Winds, down on the beach. At that time, you will pay the deposit, get your Recycling Lanyard, get your shift schedule for the weekend. Once you get your schedule, take a picture of it and/or make sure to set alarms for your shifts.

3- There is a Volunteer Camping Area---Camp Pick Your Shit Up. THIS IS REQUIRED!!

We MUST be able to communicate with you at all times, so please make sure to have your phone on you, keep it charged, set alarms for your shifts, don't lose it, etc. This is very important if something comes up all of a sudden and we need someone to take care of it!

THANK YOU'S FOR THE WEEKEND

In exchange for your awesome work of the weekend, you will receive:

*a FULL weekend of Music, Swimming, and Camping (Thursday-Sunday, with the option of staying Sunday night to help Monday)

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS

*at least 18 years old

*Close-toed shoes/boots to work in. NO FLIP FLOPS, SANDALS, OR OPEN TOED SHOES!

*Clothes you can get dirty in, because you will!

*Gloves are provided, but you can bring personal gloves if you'd like

*COMING IN ON THURSDAY IS PREFERRED, BUT YOU MUST BE ABLE TO BE IN PARK AND READY TO WORK BY FRIDAY @4PM, AND BE ABLE TO STAY ON SUNDAY UNTIL AT LEAST 6PM. IF YOU COME IN AT 4, YOU MIGHT GET THROWN STRAIGHT INTO YOUR FIRST SHIFT!

*MUST be a hard worker! There is a lot of very physical work- walking, talking, lifting, and digging through funky stuff! Be Prepared to Kick Ass! or Get your Ass Kicked! OR BOTH!

*MUST have a positive attitude! The goal of our program is to teach people through PLAY, because that's when you learn the most. You need to be able to talk to and interact with campers, encouraging them to remember to Recycle. And you need to be able to stay positive, even when they aren't!

CAMPING

We have a Volunteer camping area for everyone @ Camp Pick Your Shit Up. THIS IS REQUIRED! Eat together, play together, work together! This helps everyone get to know each other and will help you guys become more of a team. Help each other out for the weekend, We're all in this together! Help each other wake up and get ready to be on time for your shifts, help remind each other stay hydrated, coffee'd, fed, and rested, help each other learn how to do it better so that we get all the work done and get through the weekend smoother! Building that Comm-U-nity among us is very important. This also helps keep everyone located in the same area so you're close to the Recycle Station to run to camp when needed, and it's easier to track someone down if they are needed to be found.

OTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

*You can also Volunteer for Recycling during the week on Mondays (Aftermath)! A fresh set of hands after a big festival is a HUGE help!! After your work is done, you'll get lunch and the rest of the day in the park! The best way to get involved is to come work with us during the week to learn the basics of the program before you get thrown in for a festival. This helps to ensure you get some good training so you have all the info needed to get through a big weekend.

*Helping when you're here for a show and not volunteering! We love having drop in's that aren't working the whole weekend, but hop in and help whenever they feel like it, or its needed.

*Off Weekends

*Weekday projects

There are also lots of side projects to get involved in if you have time and talents to donate! Things like fixing up the Recycle Truck, painting signs, helping develop the Sorting station and processes, etc. If you have special talents or access to equipment you think would help our program, please let me know!
